Empowerment through Education
While serving as the lead organizer for the CPHA and being involved with SMEAC, Robinson became more and more known in the Baltimore organizing community, and others sought out her expertise. In this letter, the Baltimore Neighborhood Collaborative requested her involvement with a training institute for community organizers, which would be a particular passion of Robinson's.
The Community Organizer Training Institute Pilot was a well-organized and highly collaborative effort. In this and other organization efforts, Robinson worked closely with other members of the Baltimore community, including Dick Cook, who was an organizer and the director of the Social Work Community Outreach Service at the University of Maryland School of Social Work.
The training institute covered many aspects of the community organizing process, offering instructors the opportunity to address their areas of expertise. For Robinson, this was the grassroots base-building aspect, while Dick Cook specialized in fundraising.
